Abstract
Phosgene oxime (CAS 1794-86-1; CX) has no known uses other than as a weapon of warfare. The potential use of phosgene oxime as a chemical terrorist weapon has recently increased. It is easy to synthesize and can exist in pure form as a white powder or yellowish powder depending on the impurities that are present. It is volatile and may exist as a liquid with a high vapor pressure at room temperature. Mixing phosgene oxime with other chemical weapons can increase susceptibility to phosgene oxime, and increasing damage to the skin and lungs. Treatment for phosgene oxime exposure usually is supportive and involves the removal of protective clothing, further exposing the victim to the actions of phosgene oxime.
