Abstract

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic inflammatory disease that causes obstructed airflow from the lungs. Long-term use of cigarettes can lead to COPD. One of two common conditions of COPD include emphysema. In addition, cigarettes and cancers like small cell carcinoma (SCC) seem to have a strong correlation. Herein, we discuss emphysema and SCC and the prevalence of COPD among Native Americans vs. other races.
