He was a visiting assistant professor at the University of California, Davis, before returning to the UK to be appointed as a senior lecturer in nutrition and medicine at KCL (London) and then moving, in 2003, to Medical Research Council Human Nutrition Research (Cambridge) as head of Group and then Department, heading up Biomineral Research. He has been a fellow of the Cambridge College, Hughes Hall, for >10 years and was recently appointed as pro-Vice President there. His major interest is in minerals, especially nanominerals — both biological and engineered — and their roles in health and disease, especially the gastrointestinal tract ",
