Research Opportunities with Dr. Wheeler
Research Projects:
Educare Family Health Project – We have multiple years of data collected from participants of the Kaiser funded Educare Family Health Project. We collected data at health screenings at Kendall Whittier Educare and a demographically similar Educare in OKC. We have multiple health variables to use in evaluating the effectiveness of providing the additional Kaiser funded services including free Y membership, free cooking demonstrations with free groceries, farmer’s market tours, and access to a primary care medical home.
Hospitality House Network National Study – I collected survey data from a national sample of patients and caregivers who utilized a medical hospitality house sometime during the last year. The purpose of the study is to help the national organization of medical hospitality houses (Hospitality House Network) to better understand the demographics, needs, and effects on physical and mental health of hospitality house services (lodging, meals, emotional and spiritual support, etc.).
Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS) Analyses - The HINTS data is a multi-cycle nationally representative data base managed by the National Cancer Institute. Unlike other health surveys, this one includes a number of questions on health information seeking, health literacy, provider communication, and other psycho-social variables in addition to questions about health behaviors. The possibilities for this data are nearly infinite. I’m personally looking at various predictors of health information seeking or avoidance.
